Tuntufye Simwimba, the Programme Coordinator of Chisankho Watch, holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Master’s in Business Administration (Management Strategy). He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration at the University of Malawi and an MA in Refugee Protection and Migration Studies at the University of London. Tuntufye is a Commonwealth Scholar with a bias in human rights, management strategy and governance.
Since July 2019, he has played a pivotal role in leading effective electoral governance and human rights interventions to address pressing national issues. His responsibilities in electoral justice include monitoring and observing elections through Parallel Voter Tabulation (PVT) and Election Situation Room (ESR). As a member of the National Taskforce on Electoral Law Reforms he has been key in legal reform for increased electoral integrity. He has also been pivotal in advocating for legal and policy reforms to enhance fairness and transparency of the electoral process and facilitating the resolution of electoral disputes through mediation and arbitration. He has lead voter education projects funded by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), National Democratic Institution (NDI) and Misereor to inform citizens of their electoral rights, ensure comprehensive documentation and reporting of electoral processes, and provides capacity building for electoral stakeholders. Additionally, he is passionate about ensuring inclusivity in electoral processes, particularly for marginalized groups such as people with disabilities, women, and minority communities, working to eliminate barriers to their full participation.
Stella Natasha Chikombole is a Project Officer for ChisankhoWatch and also serves as the Deputy Head of Programmes, Programme Officer, and Civic Education. She is an experienced civil society worker with over 20 years of experience in democracy and governance, organizational development and capacity building, human rights, gender and HIV/AIDS programming. Chikombole has been organizing training courses for critical consciousness development, evidence-based advocacy and lobbying, research and advocacy for conflict transformation, monitoring and evaluation. Chikombole has experience in election observation and she has participated in all General elections held in Malawi since 2004 General elections. Chikombole leads the implementation of local level Conflict Prevention activities funded by the EU and UNDP (2014 to date).
She is one of the facilitators supported by UNDP for Peace Building and border security activities being implemented in Mangochi, Machinga, Karonga, Machinga, Mulanje and Nkhotakota from 2022. Chikombole also led the implementation of a project on Local Governance funded by European Union (2016 – 2018). Chikombole has also built capacity of over 5000 PAC volunteers in areas of election observation, human rights, conflict prevention, gender, HIV/AIDS, democratic and local governance and constitutional awareness. Chikombole holds a bachelor's degree in Social Science, the University of Malawi; a Diploma in Community Development, from Kimmage Development Studies Centre (KDSC), Dublin, Ireland; and Certificates in Project Management, Election Observation, and Conflict Management.
Elijah Lumbani Mkandawire is an Executive Director for ChisankhoWatch and the Chief Executive Officer of MHub, Malawi’s first technology and innovation Hub. MHub is a social enterprise that champions the development of local technology solutions. He manages a team of determined and passionate youths who nurture young innovators and emerging entrepreneurs with technical and business skills to create sustainable business solutions.
Elijah holds a Master’s Degree in Project Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science. He leads the design and implementation of digital skills and entrepreneurship training programs for girls and youth at the hub. Motivated by a commitment to using technology to address social issues, he focuses on organizing and mobilizing youth for change and economic development. His efforts include leading the development of digital data entry and reporting tools, as well as creating a database and webpage for ChisankhoWatch.
Elijah has led the team to co-create and run entrepreneurship programs like the Business Acceleration for Youth and the Growth Accelerator Malawi Entrepreneurship Challenge which has disbursed over $2 million funds to 63 emerging entrepreneurs through blended financing approaches, the Jobs for Youth Incubation Program which has trained over 200 youths in tech-enabled businesses and several tailor-made entrepreneurship programs for the past 4 years.
